The Kano State Government KNSG says the Office of the Attorney General has formally taken over the prosecution of the Dorayi massacre, a tragic incident that claimed the lives of a housewife and her six children.
The ancient city was thrown into shock and fear last Saturday following the gruesome killings, allegedly carried out by three principal suspects who are currently in police custody.
Addressing journalists on Monday, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, disclosed that the decision for his office to assume responsibility for the case was based on the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Maude stated that the gravity of the crime requires decisive legal action and a transparent judicial process to restore public confidence. He emphasized that the takeover is aimed at ensuring that justice is not only done but is manifestly seen to be done.
The Attorney General described the incident at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters as a tragic and senseless act that has left the entire state in mourning, noting that the murder of the woman and her children constitutes a heinous crime that offends humanity and the rule of law.
He commended the police for their swift intervention, which led to the arrest of suspects linked to the killings, describing their efforts as critical to the ongoing pursuit of justice.
Maude assured residents that the government would spare no effort in ensuring accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to due process throughout the investigation and prosecution.
He further reiterated the government’s commitment to allowing the law to take its full course without interference and urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding despite the anger and grief generated by the tragedy.
