The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Jigawa State chapter, has appealed to the state government to implement the new ₦32,000 minimum pension recently approved by the Federal Government.
Speaking during a programme on Radio Jigawa, the State Chairman of the Union, Mallam Umar Sani Babura, said the Union had already submitted a formal request to the state government for adoption and payment of the new rate.
He expressed confidence that Governor Umar Namadi would approve the increase once the committee in charge of pension review concludes its work and submits its report.
Babura disclosed that the state government had already conducted a screening exercise for all pensioners in preparation for the new pension scheme’s implementation.
He also appealed to Governor Namadi to include pensioners in empowerment and palliative programmes, especially those targeting agriculture. In addition, the NUP chairman requested that the government provide the Union with a vehicle to enhance its service delivery.
