The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, his deputy, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, and 22 other lawmakers have resigned their membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and pledged their full support to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The development was disclosed in a statement released by the Kano State House of Assembly and signed by the Press Secretary of the legislative chamber, Kamaludden Sani Shawai.

According to the statement, those who left the NNPP alongside the governor include the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, and the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Lawan Hussain. Others are the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Garba Shehu Fammar, the Chief Whip, Hon. Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki, and several other members representing constituencies across the state.
The statement revealed that a total of 22 members of the House were involved in the defection, cutting across various constituencies, including Ajingi, Albasu, Bagwai/Shanono, Bebeji, Bunkure, Dawakin Kudu, Fagge, Gabasawa, Garko, Gwale, Karaye, Kura/Garun Malam, Madobi, Minjibir, Rano, Tarauni, and Wudil.

It added that the Kano State House of Assembly had verified and authenticated the list of the defecting lawmakers as officially released.
The Assembly explained that the announcement was made to properly inform members of the public and clarify the political status of the affected lawmakers following the governor’s defection.
