Detectives of the Kebbi State Police Command have arrested three suspects and recovered weapons following intelligence reports on suspicious activities at Bagudo Market in the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested based on credible information and found in possession of two locally made firearms, one cartridge, and three machetes.
The suspects were identified as Abubakar Muhammadu, Abdullahi Majo, and Ali Alhaji Jemu. Police said they have been linked to an earlier kidnapping incident at Bani Koso Village in Shanga Local Government Area, where a 55-year-old man was abducted from his residence.
SP Usman said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mohammed Hadejia, for further investigation. He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
In a related development, the Police Command also arraigned an armed robbery suspect, Shafiu Atiku, of Arewa Local Government Area, before a court in Birnin Kebbi.
The suspect was arrested on January 15, 2026, after allegedly attacking a commercial motorcyclist identified as Jafar with a machete and a knife, and dispossessing him of his Bajaj motorcycle along Bypass Road, Birnin Kebbi.
The police advised commercial motorcyclists, especially those operating at night, to exercise caution and avoid conveying suspicious individuals to isolated locations, noting that such practices have previously resulted in the loss of lives and property.
