In a renewed commitment to public health and emergency preparedness, the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
The distribution was carried out through the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), led by its Director General, Professor Muhammad Adamu Abbas, and delivered to Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs) across the LGAs.
The PPEs, described as critical tools for frontline disease prevention and emergency response, include aprons, facemasks, goggles, hand gloves, and hand sanitizers. These items are essential for protecting health workers from infection and minimizing the spread of communicable diseases during outbreaks.
The distribution exercise was witnessed by the State Epidemiologist, senior officials of KNCDC, and representatives of the media.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Professor Abbas emphasized that ensuring the availability of PPEs at the grassroots level is vital to safeguarding healthcare workers and enabling swift response to disease outbreaks.
He explained that the administration deliberately avoided stockpiling the equipment in the state capital, opting instead to position them closer to hospitals and health facilities across the state.
According to him, this strategy will reduce response time during emergencies, improve disease containment efforts, and ultimately save lives.
Professor Abbas commended Local Government Chairmen for their cooperation and reaffirmed the Governor’s call on the media, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to continue partnering with the Kano State Government and KNCDC in promoting disease prevention and public health awareness.
He noted that the intervention reflects the determination of the Abba Kabir Yusuf–led administration to strengthen health security, empower frontline responders, and protect the wellbeing of residents across Kano State.
