The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to households affected by a recent rainstorm disaster in parts of Osun State, providing immediate support to victims across several communities.
The intervention, carried out through NEMA’s Ibadan Operations Office, targeted residents in 11 communities within Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency who were impacted by the destructive storm.
The distribution exercise took place, at Adeleke Hall, Country Home, Ede, and was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives of the affected communities and officials of government.
Speaking during the exercise, Assistant Head of Ibadan Operations, Mr. Olanrewaju Kazeem, said the initiative was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to provide relief and demonstrate support to citizens affected by disasters.
He urged residents to be more conscious of the growing impact of climate change and adopt proactive disaster risk management measures to reduce vulnerability.
Kazeem also encouraged communities to strengthen grassroots emergency response by establishing Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs), noting that community-based preparedness, supported by indigenous knowledge, plays a vital role in mitigating disaster risks.
He explained that the relief materials were intended to cushion the hardship faced by affected households and assist them in recovering from the disaster.
A representative of Hon. Bamidele Salami, who represents the affected federal constituency, was present to witness the distribution and reaffirm support for the affected communities.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to NEMA and the Federal Government for the timely intervention, describing the relief materials as a significant support during a difficult period.
The intervention underscores NEMA’s continued commitment to providing emergency assistance and strengthening disaster response mechanisms across vulnerable communities in the country.
