Kano State is set to host the first-ever national Roller Skating Championship in Nigeria, with participants from 26 states expected to converge on the state for the inaugural Kano Roller Skates Championship.
The three-day competition is scheduled to hold from October 28 to 30, 2026, at the Mahaha Sport Complex, Kofar Naisa, Kano.
The opening ceremony will be led by the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, alongside the Kano State Governor’s Special Adviser on Sports Affairs, Alhaji Sani Danja, and other distinguished guests.
Speaking on the significance of the championship, the Chairman of the Kano Roller Skating Association, Ibrahim Aliyu Khalid, described the event as the first of its kind to be organised in Nigeria.
Khalid attributed the achievement to the support and commitment of the Kano State Sports Commission in promoting emerging sporting disciplines and creating opportunities for young people to discover and develop their talents.
He said the championship would provide a platform for roller skating athletes from across the country to compete, showcase their skills and contribute to the growth of the sport in Nigeria.
The Kano State Sports Commission reaffirmed its commitment to developing all sporting disciplines and providing a conducive environment for athletes to hone their talents and compete at national and international levels.
The championship is expected to further position Kano as a destination for sporting events while providing young athletes with opportunities for exposure and career development.
