The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has appointed Professor Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim as the new Provost of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN).
The appointment was announced, during the Commission’s 2026 Retreat, following the completion of the tenure of the outgoing Provost, Professor Tunde Babawale.
Professor Ibrahim, a respected scholar and administrator, brings extensive experience in governance, international relations, and development studies to his new role. He currently serves as Director of the International Centre at the University of Abuja and has previously held positions as Head of the Department of Political Science and Director of the Centre for Legislative Studies at the institution.
His academic work aligns closely with ACAN’s mandate, particularly in the area of anti-corruption research and governance reform. He is the originator of the “post-colonial internalism” theory, which identifies corruption as a major impediment to Africa’s development.
Professor Ibrahim’s scholarly contributions include more than a dozen academic books and over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles focusing on leadership, governance, and corruption in Nigeria.
He has received international recognition through fellowships from notable institutions such as the Social Science Research Council and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He has also participated in major global policy platforms, including the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where he contributed to discussions on governance and development.
The ICPC expressed confidence that Professor Ibrahim’s appointment would strengthen ACAN’s research capacity, enhance its training programmes, and deepen international partnerships, thereby reinforcing the Academy’s role within Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework.
The Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) is the ICPC’s specialised research and training institution, responsible for capacity building, applied research, integrity studies, and professional education in support of national and international anti-corruption efforts.
