The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Local Government Area, Alhaji U. Umar, has assured residents of the safety and security of the forthcoming continuation of the voter registration exercise in the area.
The assurance was given during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Rano office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This was contained in a statement issued by the Zonal Information Officer of Rano Zone, Abdullahi Musa Gyadi Gyadi.
According to the statement, Alhaji Umar called on political party leaders to caution their supporters especially youths against any form of violence or actions that could disrupt the electoral process.
Speaking at the meeting, the Rano LGA Electoral Officer, Alhaji Abubakar Garba Musa Doguwa, explained that the meeting was organized to inform stakeholders and party leaders about the arrangements for the continued collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), both manually and online, across polling units and registration centers.
He also highlighted challenges facing the Rano INEC office, including irregular power supply, and outlined rules for the exercise to ensure order and efficiency.
The Local Government Chairman, Malam Muhammad Naziru Ya’u Rano, pledged full support from the council to guarantee the success of the exercise. He urged village and ward heads, religious leaders, and association leaders to educate their communities on the importance of collecting their PVCs.
Representatives of major political parties, including the NNPP Chairman in Rano, Alhaji Ibrahim Yaluwa, and the PDP Chairman, Malam Shehu Zurgu, also spoke at the meeting, reiterating their commitment to a peaceful and successful voter registration exercise.
