The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to commence a ward-to-ward voter registration exercise across all ten wards of Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, starting Monday, February 2, 2026.

The Electoral Officer of Gwarzo LGA, Alhaji Hussaini Musa Jibo, disclosed this on Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the commission at its conference hall in Gwarzo.

Rano: Stakeholders Unite to Ensure Peaceful Voter Registration

The development was contained in a statement signed by the Zonal Information Officer, Gwarzo Zone, Auwalu Musa Yola, and made available to journalists in Kano.

Jibo said the meeting was convened to sensitise key stakeholders—including district and village heads, Chief Imams of Jumu’ah mosques, political party leaders, security agencies, and other relevant groups—on INEC’s plan to decentralise voter registration services and make them more accessible at the ward level.

He explained that the registration exercise would last for five days in each ward from the date INEC officials arrive, and urged residents to cooperate fully with registration officials to ensure a smooth and successful process.

The electoral officer also disclosed that about 3,000 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) belonging to residents of Gwarzo LGA are currently at the INEC office, calling on affected individuals to promptly collect their cards.

Speaking on behalf of political parties, the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gwarzo, Alhaji Samaila Abdullahi, said stakeholders made valuable contributions during the meeting, particularly in view of the electoral officer’s recent posting to the area.

He noted that concerns such as adequate network coverage in the southern, northern, and eastern parts of the local government were raised to ensure seamless voter registration, and assured that political parties would mobilise their members and the general public to participate actively in the exercise.

Also speaking, the District Head of Gwarzo, Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta of Kano, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Gwarzo, pledged the full cooperation and support of traditional rulers and community leaders throughout the registration period.

He said district and village heads would work closely with INEC officials to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and successful voter registration exercise across the local government area.

INEC Partners BUK to Boost Voter Registration, Election Credibility

The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by representatives of traditional institutions, religious leaders, political parties, security agencies, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Chief Imam of Gwarzo, and other community leaders.
