The 61st Congregation of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, for what it described as remarkable transformations recorded by the University within the first four months of his administration.
Members of the Congregation, made up of academic and non-teaching staff, expressed their appreciation during the Congregation meeting.
They highlighted noticeable improvements in staff and students’ welfare, academic development, and a renewed drive toward academic excellence under Professor Musa’s leadership.
The Vice-Chancellor received a standing ovation from members of the Congregation in recognition of the reforms and positive changes recorded across the University since he assumed office.
Addressing the gathering as Chairman of the Congregation, Professor Musa disclosed that Bayero University, Kano, was ranked the best university in Nigeria for international visibility and third overall nationwide in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
He also announced plans by the University to construct 500 housing units for staff through a partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank, describing the initiative as part of the administration’s commitment to enhancing staff welfare and improving working conditions.
Professor Musa further highlighted several national and international collaborations secured by the University, including a landmark partnership with Chinese institutions to establish a China–Africa Joint Key Laboratory for Advanced and Applicable Agricultural Machinery and Equipment.
According to him, the collaboration is expected to strengthen research, innovation, and technological development in the agricultural sector.
Other initiatives aimed at boosting research capacity, academic excellence, and the overall welfare of staff and students were also outlined by the Vice-Chancellor.
Members of the University community commended the pace and impact of the administration’s interventions within a short period and urged the University Management to sustain the momentum to consolidate the gains achieved so far.
