The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, received Mr. Jean-Paul Ngome Abiaga, Head of the UNESCO Office, Abuja and UNESCO Representative to Nigeria, and his delegation at the Commission’s headquarters in Kano on Thursday.
The meeting focused on exploring strategic collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable and inclusive development in Nigeria’s North West region. Prof. Ma’aji briefed the UNESCO delegation on NWDC’s mandate, highlighting key initiatives in youth engagement, girl-child education, access to quality education, and basic healthcare as essential drivers of regional development.
He also formally presented a proposal detailing priority areas where NWDC and UNESCO could partner to advance education, youth empowerment, and community development.
Responding, Mr. Ngome Abiaga praised the Commission’s development-focused agenda and welcomed the collaboration proposal, expressing optimism about forging a strong and mutually beneficial partnership.
The visit reflects NWDC’s commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships with international organizations to enhance the socio-economic development of communities across the North West region of Nigeria.
