President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has established a dedicated support fund for members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including personnel wounded in the line of duty and families of fallen heroes.
The President made the announcement on Sunday to mark his 74th birthday, describing the initiative as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and service of military personnel safeguarding the nation.
As part of the directive, the President instructed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a special account that will provide targeted assistance to injured service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of deceased military personnel.
In a personal show of commitment, President Tinubu pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative, underscoring his resolve to ensure that the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces are recognised and supported.
He called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund, adding that further details on its operation will be made public in due course.
President Tinubu emphasised that the initiative is anchored on a national responsibility to care for those who risk their lives in defence of the country, as well as their families who bear the consequences of their sacrifice.
He noted that supporting military personnel and their families should not be seen as charity, but a duty that must be collectively upheld.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of service members, assuring that their dedication to national security will be matched with dignity, care, and sustained support.
