The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) Chapter, has suspended its ongoing strike with effect from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The decision followed the approval by the Kaduna State Government for the implementation and domestication of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement for academic staff of the university, beginning from October 2026.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the union, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi, and the Secretary, Comrade Silas Amos Bakut, and issued to journalists after the union’s congress meeting in Kaduna on Thursday.
The union also said the University Governing Council and Management had approved the commencement of payment of accrued nine-month arrears owed to academic staff.
Explaining the decision, Abdullahi said the congress unanimously accepted the approvals by the state government and university authorities and consequently resolved to suspend the strike.

He described the developments as significant steps towards restoring stability and industrial harmony at the university.
The union expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, the Governing Council and the university management for their efforts towards resolving the issues that led to the industrial action.
It also commended the government negotiation team for its dedication and prompt attention to the matter, as well as the university management for providing relevant information, documents and support during the negotiations.
According to the union, the government and university management also allowed it to follow its established internal procedures throughout the dispute, describing this as a demonstration of respect for due process and constructive industrial relations.

The union said it looked forward to welcoming students back to the classrooms as soon as possible.
