    The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has signed a new agreement with the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO), to coordinate the implementation of Nigeria’s 2025 Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan (CAAP).

    The agreement marks a renewed partnership that positions AHBN at the forefront of national efforts to strengthen advocacy and accountability for women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health (WCAH).

    With support from PMNCH, AHBN will lead the delivery of key activities outlined in the CAAP, including coalition-building, mobilization of domestic resources, and advocacy for improved health outcomes.

    The CAAP was developed through a multi-stakeholder process and is aligned with key national health priorities, including the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (HSRII), the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), and Nigeria’s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Acceleration Plan under the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) initiative.

    Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, Coordinator of AHBN, emphasized the significance of the partnership.

    “As we move into implementation, we envision the CAAP serving as a unifying framework that strengthens collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and diverse constituencies.

    This will accelerate progress in maternal, newborn, and child health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and adolescent well-being,” he said.

    This will accelerate progress in maternal, newborn, and child health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and adolescent well-being,” he said.

    Through this partnership, AHBN will work with a wide range of stakeholders, including youth groups, civil society organizations, media, parliamentarians, policymakers, and individuals with lived experiences, to drive national advocacy efforts.

    Key objectives of the initiative include:

    Strengthening joint advocacy and accountability coalitions for WCAH;

    Advancing action on maternal, newborn, and child mortality reduction;

    Promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights;

    Advocating for sustained and increased domestic health financing.

    Nigeria is one of ten priority countries under PMNCH’s CAAP initiative, which aims to enhance accountability for health commitments through inclusive, evidence-based, and coordinated action.

    The initiative also includes the development of a Digital Advocacy Hub, an online platform to facilitate information-sharing and collaboration among stakeholders.

    By reinforcing collaboration between the government and key actors in the health sector, AHBN’s leadership in the CAAP implementation is expected to ensure that Nigeria’s health reforms translate into tangible results for the country’s most vulnerable populations.
