As the world moves towards sustainable and inclusive solutions, the Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI), in collaboration with like-minded NGOs, has trained women and adolescent girls to produce affordable, reusable, and eco-friendly sanitary pads.

Reports indicate that many women and adolescent girls in Nigeria still face period poverty, putting their health and well‑being at risk.

The training aims to build a sustainable pathway towards menstrual equity.

V‑PeSDI Coordinator, Hannatu Suleiman Abba, explained that the initiative emerged while planning for the 2025 Menstrual Hygiene Day with partner organizations.

“Training women and girls to produce reusable sanitary pads is not just about ending period poverty,” she said.

“It is a life skill that empowers women, improves their economic status, and contributes to the overall economic growth of the state and the nation.”

The initiative also prioritizes inclusivity, extending the training to physically and hearing‑impaired women and girls.

V-PeSDI Commends AMG Foundation for Ramadan Feeding

“By reaching out to marginalized groups, we ensure that sustainable solutions benefit every segment of society, she emphasized.

The training was supported by the AMG foundation, Widi Jalo Foundation, Women Partner for Progress (WPP), Anatomia Healthcare Education, KALAMED and NDEHI, who have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting menstrual health and supporting global efforts for sustainable change.
