The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa,has commissioned a 3KVA solar-powered inverter facility with 1,000 battery arms at the popular Kitchen Conversion (New Hall).
The facility, designed to serve 500 students, aims to provide steady and uninterrupted power supply, ensuring a conducive 24-hour reading environment, particularly as students undertake their second semester examinations.
Speaking at the commissioning, Professor Musa emphasized that the initiative reflects the University Management’s commitment to student welfare and academic success. He also revealed that the renovation of student hostels will commence immediately, with plans to expand similar solar-powered facilities across other University campuses.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Mukhtar Ridwan Bunza, who later conducted him on a tour of facilities at the Deanery.
On behalf of the student body, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Abdulmudallib Kalli Sheriff, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, describing the project as timely and student-centred.
The commissioning of the solar-powered inverter facility demonstrates BUK’s commitment to leveraging sustainable energy solutions to enhance academic excellence and student comfort.
