The Kano State Police Command has revealed that it has identified over 2,000 suspected drug dealers through the use of open-source intelligence, with verification and profiling ongoing ahead of decisive action.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, during a briefing with newsmen in Kano.
CP Bakori said the approach demonstrates the Command’s commitment to combining technology and community support in the fight against crime.
He further highlighted other key achievements of the Command, including:
Liberation of areas affected by bandit activities in collaboration with the state government and other security agencies
Resolution of conflicts between farmers and herders through community engagement
Arrest and prosecution of suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and other offences
Outlining the strategies guiding operations in 2026, CP Bakori noted that the Command is focused on enhanced community policing, intelligence-led operations, capacity building for officers, the establishment of a state-of-the-art cybercrime unit, stronger collaboration with other security agencies, and public awareness campaigns.
He also highlighted the success of Operation Kukan Kura, which has significantly reduced incidents of thuggery and violence in the state.
CP Bakori urged officers to maintain high ethical and professional standards while expanding intelligence-led and technology-driven policing.
While acknowledging ongoing security challenges, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to protecting lives and property.
He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the citizens of Kano for their continued support and cooperation.
The Command also noted that recent restructuring has strengthened its ability to respond effectively to emerging security challenges across the state.
CP Bakori assured residents that the Kano State Police Command remains committed to maintaining a safe environment for living and business, urging citizens to continue supporting law enforcement efforts.
