Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mohammed Idris Haidara, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to Willem-Alexander, officially commencing his diplomatic mission in The Hague.
The credential presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday at the historic Noordeinde Palace, where Ambassador Haidara was received by King Willem-Alexander in accordance with Dutch royal diplomatic protocol.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Haidara conveyed the goodwill and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Dutch monarch and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Netherlands.
The envoy noted that both countries enjoy a longstanding relationship founded on mutual respect, expanding trade ties, and a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation.
He highlighted key areas of collaboration, including agriculture, renewable energy, maritime security, and international justice, describing the partnership as one that continues to yield mutual benefits and sustainable development.
According to the ambassador, his appointment by President Tinubu highlights Nigeria’s determination to deepen diplomatic engagement with the Netherlands, expand economic cooperation, and further strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two nations.
In keeping with Dutch diplomatic tradition, Ambassador Haidara was transported to the palace in a royal carriage accompanied by the Royal Chamberlain and an escort from the Royal Netherlands Mounted Police.
Upon arrival, a military band rendered honours, including four ceremonial drumrolls and the Nigerian national anthem, after which the ambassador inspected the guard of honour.
The event concluded with the formal presentation of credentials and a brief bilateral meeting between King Willem-Alexander and Ambassador Haidara, during which issues of mutual interest between Nigeria and the Netherlands were discussed.
The presentation of Letters of Credence marks the official recognition of Ambassador Haidara as Nigeria’s principal diplomatic representative in the Netherlands and signals a new chapter in diplomatic relations between both countries.
