The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of a suspected car thief and the recovery of a Toyota Hilux stolen from Abuja and traced to Kaduna State within hours.
The Command said the operation followed a swift response by operatives of the Maitama Police Division after receiving a distress call on June 20, 2026, at about 1:45 p.m., reporting the theft of a white 2014 Toyota Hilux with registration number BWR 712 CV from the Wuse II area of the FCT.
According to the Police, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Altine Daniel, immediately mobilised a team to the scene, where the vehicle owner reported that the Hilux had been parked at about 1:30 p.m. but was discovered missing just four minutes later after an unidentified individual drove it away.
Following the report, the FCT Police Command alerted all police formations and deployment points along entry and exit routes to the territory, directing officers to intensify stop-and-search operations to prevent the stolen vehicle from leaving the FCT.
The Command said digital tracking technology enabled operatives to trace the vehicle to Kubacha in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where it was recovered at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the same day.
One suspect was arrested in connection with the theft and is currently in police custody alongside the recovered vehicle.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the theft and identify any accomplices involved.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, urged residents to remain security conscious by taking proactive measures to safeguard their vehicles and other valuables.
He advised vehicle owners to install functional tracking devices, avoid leaving valuables unattended inside vehicles, and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
