Ward development committee WDC chairmen in Kano have praised Pathfinder International for its efforts in raising awareness about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine across the state.
During a townhall meeting organized by Pathfinder International and KNSPHCMB, chairmen of Danmaliki, Chiranci and Na’ibawa wards Tukur Abdullahi, Sabi’u Ado, and Abubakar Ibrahim Yusuf commended the organization for its volunteer community mobilizers VCMs training and town hall meeting.
The chairmen emphasized that the public lacks basic information about the HPV vaccine, which is crucial in eradicating cervical cancer.
They urged the government and stakeholders to intensify their efforts in disseminating knowledge about the vaccine to communities.
The chairmen pledged to inform men and women to take their children to the nearest primary healthcare centers for the HPV vaccine.
They also plan to collaborate with religious and traditional leaders to spread awareness.
The health educator Kumbotso LGA Nasiru Ibrahim noted that community members often ask about the target age population for the vaccine.
He suggested that training ward and village heads would yield positive results at the grassroots level.
Paradise News reports that Pathfinder International’s project on enhancing HPV vaccine awareness and uptake in Nigeria, aims to educate communities about the importance of HPV vaccination through advocacy, outreach, and communication campaigns, in collaboration with the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Cancer Society, and government agencies.
