In its efforts to create a conducive learning environment, the Kano State Government (KNSG) has distributed 80 mattresses to newly admitted students under the Northern States Exchange Program.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Auwal Mustapha Gadon Kaya, made this known during the mattress distribution ceremony held at Government Secondary School, Gwarzo.
Dr. Makoda explained that the provision of mattresses aligns with the current administration’s commitment to improving the teaching and learning environment for students.

He noted that students of the Exchange Program at Government Secondary School, Gwarzo received 55 mattresses, while those at Government Girls Secondary School, Shekara, benefitted from 25 mattresses.

Dr. Makoda pointed out that for over a decade, exchange students had not received such support, despite it being one of the program’s established guidelines — which stipulate that the host state should provide mattresses, pillows, buckets, beds, and other essential items to ensure the students’ comfort.
He emphasized that the present administration under Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to enhancing the welfare and learning conditions of exchange students, in a bid to fulfill the objectives of the program.

Dr. Makoda also commended the governor for his dedication and foresight in revitalizing the education sector, adding that further plans are underway to improve the quality of education across the state.
The Principal of Government Secondary School, Gwarzo, Comrade Sani Haladu Gwarzo, and his counterpart from Government Girls Secondary School, Shekara, Amina Yahaya, expressed their gratitude to the Governor for reviving the long-neglected initiative.
