    The recent live broadcast of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s conferment of the prestigious Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) award has further cemented the reputation of Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa as a visionary leader at the helm of Nigeria’s education sector.

    Dr. Alausa’s remarkable journey from a family of educators to a distinguished medical practitioner specializing in kidney stone disease and hypertension, and eventually to a reform-driven education minister, reflects his deep commitment to learning, innovation, and service.

    His passion for addressing the critical challenges of the education sector led to the development of the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) capsules.

    These initiatives, which he metaphorically describes as cures for “education hypertension” and “education kidney stone disease,” have sought to revitalize learning and skills acquisition in Nigeria.

    Some of the landmark achievements under Dr. Alausa’s leadership include:

    Establishment of Federal Schools of Science and Technology with free tuition fees;

    Implementation of Out-of-School Children Initiatives to reduce the number of unschooled youths;

    Promotion of Girl-Child Education programs across the country;

    Integration of Almajiri Education into the formal system to ensure inclusivity;

    Introduction of robust checks to curb examination malpractices;

    Full compliance with Computer-Based Testing (CBT) methods in all future examinations.

    These reforms have not only positioned the education sector on a trajectory of growth but have also earned Dr. Alausa national and international recognition.

    The recent conferment of the CON award by President Tinubu is a testament to his selfless dedication, innovative spirit, and relentless pursuit of excellence in education management.

    Dr. Alausa’s leadership represents a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s future, inspiring a new generation of educators, policymakers, and students.

    His enduring impact on the nation’s education landscape will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come as a model of visionary service and transformational change.

    As Nigeria continues to navigate the complex challenges of educational development, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa stands out as a symbol of what committed, innovative, and people-centered leadership can achieve.
