The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kano Branch, have agreed to strengthen collaboration aimed at promoting the rule of law, improving road safety enforcement, and enhancing the capacity of FRSC personnel.
The FRSC Corps Legal Adviser, Mrs. Olushola Ashonibare, disclosed this during a meeting with officials of the NBA, Kano Branch, held on Tuesday at the FRSC Kano Sector Command Headquarters.
Ashonibare said the meeting was convened to foster a stronger working relationship between the FRSC and the NBA, noting that the partnership would enhance mutual understanding, improve institutional synergy, and promote effective collaboration between both organisations.
She explained that one of the major resolutions reached at the meeting was to jointly organise capacity-building programmes for FRSC personnel to enable them discharge their duties professionally and in accordance with the law.
“FRSC is a creation of law and discharges its statutory responsibilities within the provisions of the law and due process,” she said.
According to her, the partnership is designed to ensure that FRSC personnel carry out enforcement duties professionally while respecting the rights of citizens and operating strictly within the confines of the law.
Ashonibare added that the collaboration would also improve officers’ understanding of legal procedures and promote lawful enforcement on the nation’s highways.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kano Branch, Mr. Sani Ammani, said the meeting underscored the importance of both organisations operating within the boundaries of the law.
He reaffirmed the NBA’s commitment to working closely with the FRSC to ensure strict compliance with the rule of law while safeguarding the rights of citizens.
Ammani noted that lawful enforcement would strengthen public confidence in the FRSC and encourage greater compliance with traffic regulations and other legal provisions by road users.
He further assured that the NBA would provide the necessary legal support to advance the objectives of the partnership and promote effective administration of justice in road traffic enforcement.
