WKano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the official change of name of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled Persons to
“Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and People with Special Needs.”
This strategic decision, announced by the Commissioner Ambassador Hajiya Amina Sani Abdullahi, reflects the government’s strong commitment to promoting dignity, inclusiveness, and equality for all citizens—particularly people with special needs.
According to the Commissioner, the renaming aligns with global best practices by replacing outdated and potentially stigmatizing terms with people-first language that respects human rights and upholds the principles of social justice.

“This change is more than symbolic. It reflects our values as a government and our commitment to building a society where everyone—regardless of their physical or mental condition—is valued and empowered,”
She pointed out that,the Ministry will continue to focus on women empowerment, child welfare, and the full inclusion of people with special needs in all spheres of social, economic, and political development across the State.
Hajiya Amina said, Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting inclusive policies and programs that create opportunities for vulnerable groups to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress.
“The state government calls on all stakeholders—civil society organizations, development partners, advocacy groups, and the general public—to take note of the name change and extend their full cooperation to the Ministry in fulfilling its vital mandate”
