President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent warm congratulations to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on the occasion of his 63rd birthday, marked on January 5, 2026.
In a congratulatory message signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Governor Yusuf for his integrity, humility, modest lifestyle and unwavering commitment to public service, qualities he said are evident in the administration of Kano State.
Governor Yusuf, who was elected in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), previously served as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport in Kano State between 2011 and 2015 during the administration of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
President Tinubu noted that Yusuf’s leadership in Kano reflects the enduring legacy of progressive politics in the state, particularly the commitment to grassroots development and the upliftment of the talakawa—principles championed by the late Mallam Aminu Kano.
According to the President, Governor Yusuf’s experience in managing strategic ministries prepared him for the infrastructural transformation currently taking place across the state.
“Governor Yusuf’s leadership experience, particularly his years as commissioner managing key portfolios in Kano State, may have prepared him for the infrastructural changes now witnessed in the state,” Tinubu said.
He commended the governor’s urban renewal initiatives, including the construction of bridges and road networks, as well as the ongoing five-kilometre road projects in each of the state’s local government areas.
The President also applauded Yusuf’s declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector, noting that the move has led to a significant improvement in the performance of Kano students in recent National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
President Tinubu wished the Kano State governor long life, good health and many more years of impactful and transformative leadership in service to the people of the state.
