The Ajiyan Sokoto, Alhaji Umar I. Ajiya, has denied the rumours being peddled in some quarters that he plans to contest the Sokoto Governorship seat in 2027.
In a statement on Monday by the Spokesman to the Ajiyan Sokoto, Bashir Ahmad Danmalam, blamed such rumours on the handwork of some disgruntled elements who do not wish Ajiya well and are also bent on causing disaffection between him and the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.

Danmalam noted that such insinuation aimed to discredit the traditional title holder who has no plan to contest any elective position, let alone the Sokoto State governorship seat.
“It has come to our knowledge that parts of the orchestrated plans already being hatched are to circulate campaign posters with the picture of the former Ajiyan Sokoto, insinuating that he’s planning to contest for the Sokoto State Governorship seat.
This insinuation is not only baseless and false, but unfounded and therefore should be disregarded,” Danmalam said.
He said, “As a patriotic citizen who had worked and held various positions in both the private and public service, and retired peacefully, Ajiyan Sokoto has no plan to contest any elective position.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that Alhaji Umar I. Ajiya did not mandate any individual or group to print out and circulate any posters on his behalf, as he remains a loyal APC card-carrying member who is committed to the development of democracy in the country.

According to Media Aide, Ajiya would continue to support the present administration under the able leadership of President Bola Tinubu to enable him to continue to uplift the country to an enviable position.
He, therefore, called on the people of Sokoto State in particular and Nigeria at large, to disregard such rumours, stressing that Ajiya would not hesitate to take legal action against any individual or group trying to cause disaffection and enmity between him and the Sokoto State Governor or the Federal Government.
“We called on members of the general public, especially in Sokoto state, to disregard the mischief of those people peddling the rumours which are aimed at creating confusion in the state and the country,” Danmalam added.
