As part of activities marking World Human Rights Day, the Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening humanitarian interventions and enhancing social protection for vulnerable groups across the state.
Speaking at the World Human Rights Day Celebration and Award Presentation organized by the Center for Human Rights, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, said the government is intensifying efforts to provide effective disaster management and equitable distribution of relief materials to safeguard vulnerable communities.
Represented by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the Commissioner noted that the ministry will continue to collaborate with the Center for Human Rights and Charity Development Initiatives to empower youth through skills acquisition programs.
“As a ministry, we will continue to work together to safeguard vulnerable populations and build long-term resilience across the 44 local government areas of the state. Our sensitization programs on humanitarian issues will complement the Center’s efforts in educating people on self-reliance and community development,”
He described the theme of this year’s commemoration, “Strengthening Human Rights and Promoting Justice for All,” as timely, stressing the importance of promoting justice, inclusion, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
“We cannot overemphasize the significance of this day in raising public awareness and ensuring that the rights of individuals—especially the most vulnerable—are protected and respected,”
The Commissioner also appreciated the support extended to the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf by the Center for Human Rights and Charity Development Initiatives.
He called on stakeholders to work collectively to build a society where justice prevails and the rights of all citizens are guaranteed.
Chairman of the occasion, Wakilin Wangarawa, Alhaji Dahiru Yusuf, emphasized the need for citizens to understand the importance of human rights and social protection as foundations for a progressive society.
The National Director-General of the Center for Human Rights, Comrade Auwalu Jibril Maifada, explained that the center, established in 2018, is dedicated to protecting vulnerable groups, advancing human rights, and safeguarding lives.
The event concluded with an award presentation honoring individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion of human rights and social protection in Kano State.
World Human Rights Day is marked annually on December 10 to promote awareness, protection, and advancement of human rights globally.
