A member representing Dutsinma Local Government Area in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Malam Muhammad Abubakar Khamis, has sponsored 25 students to study health-related courses at the Alliance College of Environmental and Health Science, Dutsinma, Katsina State.
Malam Khamis disclosed this at the college premises in Shema during the matriculation ceremony of newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
He said the sponsorship was part of efforts to support the administration of Governor Dikko Radda in providing quality education, particularly in the health sector.
The lawmaker added that he has also spent over ₦21 million sponsoring other indigenes of Dutsinma Local Government to study various courses in tertiary institutions within and outside the state.
The lawmaker, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Security, noted that government alone cannot meet all development needs and called on wealthy individuals and groups to complement government policies and programmes to achieve desired objectives.
According to him, the 25 beneficiaries were carefully selected across the eleven wards of the local government area. He urged them to remain committed to their studies and avoid any act capable of tarnishing their image and that of the institution.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Dutsinma Local Government Council, Alhaji Kabir Shema, represented by the Vice Chairman, Shukurana Sale Damaga, said education remains a top priority of the council, especially in the health sector.
He urged parents to allow their children to acquire education and skills that would enable them to be self-reliant.
In his remarks, the Katsina State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Sulaiman Namadi, commended the lawmaker for his foresight in investing in the future of the younger generation.
He called on political office holders in the state to emulate Malam Khamis in delivering dividends of democracy at the grassroots level, and also praised the management of the college for its commitment to providing quality health education at affordable cost while contributing to job creation.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of merit awards by the college management to distinguished personalities, as well as certificates of recognition to outstanding staff members.
