Plan International Nigeria and Plan International West and Central Africa have highlighted their participation at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, in New York, where the organisation advocated greater attention to children’s rights, girls’ equality and youth empowerment.
The organisation said its participation during the UNGA High-Level Week focused on ensuring that the voices and priorities of young people, women and girls across West and Central Africa were reflected in global development discussions.

Plan International was represented by its Director of Philanthropy and Business Development, Sheila Ojei, who participated in high-level engagements aimed at promoting inclusive and gender-responsive development strategies.
According to the organisation, its engagement at the global forum centred on translating international commitments into practical interventions capable of improving lives at the community level.
One of the key areas of focus was education and skills development, particularly for young people and girls preparing for changing labour markets.
At the Vivacity side event, discussions examined education reform, artificial intelligence and the green transition, with emphasis on equipping young people, particularly girls, with relevant digital and future-of-work skills.

Plan International also participated in the ASIS Global Action Forum, where it advocated development financing that can translate into tangible opportunities for communities.
The organisation said such investments should support access to quality education, sustainable livelihoods and stronger community resilience.
Another major focus of its engagement was inclusive economic growth, with Plan International highlighting the importance of ensuring that women have access to capital, technology and leadership opportunities.
The organisation said women’s meaningful participation in these areas was essential to advancing sustainable development across Africa.
Reflecting on its participation, Plan International said the conclusion of the high-level discussions should mark the beginning of efforts to translate global commitments into measurable action at the grassroots.
