Hundreds of supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging their support for Governor Nasir Idris ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, led by prominent ADC member and House of Representatives aspirant, Anas Aliyu Gujiya, were received by Governor Idris during a political gathering in Zuru, where they declared their readiness to participate in the APC’s political activities.

Also involved in the defection was Hussaini Aliyu of the Malami Support Organization (MSO), alongside hundreds of supporters who said their decision to join the ruling party was motivated by their desire to support the state government’s development agenda.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Idris expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for making the occasion possible and commended the new members for joining the APC.
He assured the defectors that the party remained open to all individuals willing to contribute to the unity, progress and development of Kebbi State, adding that they would be given equal opportunities to participate in the party’s activities.
The governor acknowledged the security challenges confronting Kebbi State and the country at large, describing insecurity as a broader national concern that required collective action and sustained cooperation among governments, security agencies and local communities.

He assured residents that his administration would continue to work with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security, restore peace and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons to their communities.
Governor Idris urged residents to remain united and avoid politicising security challenges, stressing that cooperation, mutual understanding and collective responsibility were essential to addressing insecurity.
He also thanked the defectors for the confidence they had expressed in his administration, noting that their recognition of the government’s development initiatives would encourage it to sustain efforts towards delivering democratic dividends to the people.
On infrastructure, the governor acknowledged the poor condition of some roads and assured residents that his administration would continue to pursue appropriate interventions, including on roads under the responsibility of the Federal Government.

He further commended political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders and other individuals for their contributions to peacebuilding, urging them to sustain their support for initiatives aimed at promoting security and development across the state.
In a notable development at the event, Gujiya and his supporters donated four campaign vehicles to Governor Idris in support of his political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
