Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled plans to enhance the state’s transportation system by introducing additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses.

This initiative aims to address public transportation challenges following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

The announcement was made during the commissioning of 10 CNG buses procured by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Branch, at their Katsina Road office.

Governor Yusuf commended the NLC for selecting Kano as the launchpad for the initiative and assured continuous collaboration to foster mutual support and development.

In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf revealed that 30 of 80 luxurious buses, previously abandoned by the past administration, will be converted to CNG for public use. Additionally, the remaining 50 buses will be dedicated to transporting students daily.

Recognizing the need for sustainable vehicle maintenance, the governor announced plans to establish a fully equipped CNG Service Centre.

He also pledged to allocate land for the construction of a Nigeria Labour Congress Institute in Kano, encouraging stakeholders to support its development.

Governor Yusuf lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing CNG buses to all 36 states to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to implementing people-oriented projects and maintaining a labor-friendly approach.

NLC President Joe Ajaero, present at the event, commended Kano for its prompt implementation of the N71,000 minimum wage, urging other states to follow suit.

Similarly, Kano State NLC Chairman Kabiru Inuwa appealed for the institute’s construction on their premises.

In a courtesy visit, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed the shared vision between his administration and the NLC to prioritize citizens’ welfare.

He described the union as a critical institution for workers’ well-being and promised to sustain projects benefiting the populace without political bias.

The governor also hosted NLC executives at a dinner at the Government House, where Commissioner of Information Malam Baba Halilu Dantiye extended appreciation for their engagement and support.

This initiative underscores Kano State’s commitment to enhancing public services and strengthening partnerships with labor unions for the betterment of its citizens.
