The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has intensified its grassroots environmental education campaign with sensitisation programmes in secondary schools in Osogbo.
The Osun State Field Office of the agency carried out environmental awareness sessions at GOF International Schools, Ogo Oluwa, and St. James Grammar School, Aiyetoro, both located in Osogbo.
The programmes recorded strong participation and support from school authorities, with students and staff demonstrating high levels of enthusiasm throughout the sessions.
According to the agency, the sensitisation engagements were designed to promote environmental consciousness, encourage proper sanitation practices, and instill a culture of sustainable environmental stewardship among students.
A key highlight of the programme was a detailed presentation outlining NESREA’s mandate and core responsibilities. Topics covered included biodiversity conservation, environmental pollution control, environmental quality standards, sustainable waste management, ozone layer protection, and acid rain prevention, alongside fundamental waste management principles.
NESREA noted that the initiative is part of its broader commitment to fostering environmental responsibility among young people and building a generation of environmentally conscious citizens at the grassroots level.
The agency reaffirmed its resolve to sustain such outreach programmes across schools nationwide as part of efforts to strengthen environmental protection and awareness in Nigeria.
