Police in Kano State have detained a popular TikTok personality, Fati Cele, following the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, in an incident currently under investigation.
Fati Cele, who hails from Borno State and resides in a rented apartment in the Danbare area of Kano, is well known on TikTok, where she has amassed more than 32,000 followers.

According to sources close to the deceased, the incident occurred at Cele’s residence when she reportedly raised an alarm, shouting that there was a fire. Neighbours who rushed to the scene allegedly found Makaye with burn injuries and traces of blood on his body.
The victim was immediately taken to Nassarawa Hospital for medical attention, but he later died from his injuries.
Sources further disclosed that officers from the Dorayi Babba Police Division subsequently took Cele into custody as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Makaye, a cosmetics trader who lived in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was later buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki after his remains were released to his family for funeral rites.
Confirming the development, the Kano State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said Fati Cele is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
Kiyawa also revealed that Cele sustained burns on her hands and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Additional findings indicated that the deceased’s body bore burn injuries as well as other wounds, while a shoe reportedly belonging to Cele was said to have blood stains. However, police authorities have yet to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.
Friends and associates of both the deceased and the TikTok personality reportedly disclosed that the couple had experienced relationship challenges in the past and had separated before recently reconciling.
The incident has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many users calling on security agencies to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation.
