The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has highlighted its role in promoting innovation, professionalism and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s creative industry.
The Commission made this known during NEMCEA 2026, organised by the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria, EMCOAN, in Lagos from September second to third, under the theme, “The Creators’ Economy: Elevate Your Craft, Secure Your Future.”
The NBC Director-General, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, who participated in the event, called on stakeholders in the broadcasting industry to think beyond national boundaries and embrace opportunities created by emerging technologies.
He identified Digital Switch Over, DSO, and audience measurement as important drivers of the future of broadcasting and the creative economy.
At a Directors-General roundtable, Mr. Ebuebu highlighted emerging opportunities for content creators and advocated the establishment of a joint cross-agency regulatory monitoring board to improve coordination within the sector.
He also said the Commission would align upcoming regulations on online safety and responsible use of artificial intelligence through stakeholder consultations, in order to minimise regulatory overlaps.
The NBC Director-General also visited exhibitors and masterclasses during the event, where he engaged creators, insurance providers, real estate innovators and developers of artificial intelligence-driven solutions.
The interactions provided an opportunity for exhibitors to present proposals to the Commission on ways to strengthen innovation, investment and sustainability in the creative sector.
On the second day, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs and Head of the DSO Office, Mrs. Clementine Usman-Wamba, participated in a panel on insurance and risk management.
She emphasised the importance of safeguards, disaster recovery mechanisms and protection for content creators in building a resilient creative economy.
The NBC also participated in the awards ceremony, where it congratulated nominees and winners and reiterated its commitment to responsible broadcasting, professionalism and global competitiveness.
The Commission congratulated EMCOAN on the successful organisation of NEMCEA 2026 and pledged continued collaboration with creators, investors and innovators to promote Nigerian content and enhance its competitiveness on the global stage.
