The state chairman of the association, Dr Abubakar Nagoma Usman, gave the commendation while briefing journalists in Kano on activities marking this year’s Physicians’ Week, themed “Securing the Future of Medicine in Nigeria.”
Usman said the commendation was in recognition of the state government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, primary healthcare services, emergency medical care, specialist services, workforce development and access to essential medicines and medical equipment.
He reaffirmed the association’s readiness to collaborate with the state government to achieve its healthcare objectives and improve the quality of medical services available to residents.
The NMA chairman said the association would continue to advocate a healthcare system where medical practitioners could work safely and effectively, patients received quality care, and young doctors had opportunities to build fulfilling professional careers in Nigeria.

He urged members of the public to prioritise preventive healthcare by attending routine medical check-ups, undergoing appropriate health screenings, seeking timely medical attention and obtaining medical advice from qualified healthcare professionals.
Usman also called on the media to partner with the medical profession in promoting accurate health information, combating misinformation, encouraging healthy lifestyles and raising awareness about physicians’ welfare and the need to modernise healthcare delivery.
“Our association remains committed to providing professional guidance, promoting ethical medical practice, supporting continuing professional development and advocating policies that improve both physicians’ welfare and patient outcomes,” he said.
He stressed the need for continuous reforms in medical education to prepare future physicians for the demands of modern medical practice.
According to him, medical training should increasingly incorporate digital literacy, technological innovations, research and lifelong learning to equip doctors with the skills required to respond to emerging healthcare challenges.
