The Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management Programme of the Asian Institute of Technology, AIT, has trained five officials from the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, ADAFSA, on Nile Tilapia seed production and farming.
The specialised training, was organised in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University, UAEU.
The programme is part of a broader capacity-building initiative aimed at supporting the development of a sustainable and competitive aquaculture industry in Abu Dhabi.
It focused on strengthening participants’ technical knowledge and practical skills in key areas of Nile tilapia production.
The training combined classroom lectures, hands-on practical sessions and field visits covering hatchery management, seed production, nursery and grow-out farming, genetics, fish health, processing, value addition and marketing.
Participants also visited commercial hatcheries, research facilities and aquaculture enterprises in Thailand to gain practical experience in modern tilapia production systems.
The initiative is expected to enhance knowledge transfer and strengthen the technical capacity required to advance aquaculture development in the United Arab Emirates.
It also highlights the role of international collaboration and specialised training in promoting sustainable fish production, food security and economic opportunities within the aquaculture sector.
