Former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Muhammad Garba, has fulfilled his pledge to the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel with the donation of a brand-new 50-inch television set.
Garba, who is a former Kano State Commissioner for Information and former President of the West African Journalists Association, presented the television to the leadership of the chapel on Saturday.
The donation followed a promise he made during the recent unveiling and commissioning of the rebranded Kano Correspondents’ Chapel complex.
Speaking during the presentation, Comrade Muhammad Garba said the gesture was part of his commitment to supporting initiatives that would improve the working environment and welfare of journalists.
He said he would continue to identify with programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening journalism and supporting journalists in Kano State.
Garba explained that the television would contribute to making the chapel a more conducive environment where journalists could interact, monitor current affairs and undertake professional activities.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the chapel, its Chairman, Murtala Adewale, commended Garba for fulfilling his pledge.
Adewale described the gesture as a demonstration of integrity and commitment to the development of journalism.
He said the chapel was encouraged by the fact that Garba returned to fulfil his promise within a short period rather than leaving it unattended.
The chairman said the television would add value to the facilities at the rebranded chapel complex and enhance the activities of members.
He assured that the facility would be put to effective use, particularly in keeping journalists abreast of important national and international developments.
Murtala Adewale also appreciated individuals and organisations that had supported efforts to improve the chapel’s facilities, saying the gestures would encourage its leadership to do more.
Members of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel who witnessed the presentation commended Comrade Muhammad Garba for keeping his word.
The donation is part of ongoing efforts to reposition the chapel and provide a more conducive environment for professional activities, interaction and capacity development among journalists.
