The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has initiated a program to provide financial support to 5,200 women across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The initiative was launched during a grand ceremony at the Government House in Kano.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced that each beneficiary will receive a one-time grant of N50,000 to help them become self-reliant.
“ This program aims to cushion the economic hardship faced by the beneficiaries hardship people are experiencing especially the women folk with the aim of improving we their economic standard and well being “
He said his administration has committed to setting aside N260 million monthly to fund the scheme, which is part of his administration’s efforts to empower youths, women, and settle pension debts.
“ I implore you to make judicious use of this support ,so that your economic standard would be improved and crush down poverty in the state and the Nation at large”
“ If we really want to address poverty we have empower people from the Grassroots, I assure you that we will not relent in ensuring that we fulfill the campaign promises we made during our campaign days”
He urged them to apply the experiences they acquire during the training giving to them on how to engaged in small business, geared towards Achieving the stated goals.
“ I hope you will make adequate Utilization of the funds so that soon your business will be developed “
The Governor appeals to women to intensify efforts in ensuring proper hygiene, especially during this rainy season period, aimed at enhancing effective health care.
According to Governor Yusuf, “A lot has been done in the areas of education, health, and skills acquisition training, stressing that this scheme is a testament to his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of the people.
Governor Yusuf added that similar empowerment for the male folk would soon be implemented aimed at making self-reliant and employers of labour.
The State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, commended the Governor’s initiative, describing it as a “laudable gesture” that would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of women in the state.
The empowerment scheme is part of the Governor’s efforts to fulfil his campaign promises and improve the lives of Kano State citizens.
