The Kano State Police Command has confirmed a gruesome incident at Yusuf Garko Mosque in Maraba Quarters, Kano, where a resident, Ladan Malam Zubairu, was brutally murdered on Monday, December 15, 2025.
According to the police, the victim was allegedly slaughtered by an unidentified assailant within the mosque premises. Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect was immediately chased by an enraged mob, apprehended, and lynched.
The mob also reportedly set the suspect’s residence on fire, resulting in the destruction of property.

The Police Command disclosed that security operatives were swiftly deployed to the area and normalcy has since been restored, with adequate personnel on ground to maintain law and order.
In a statement by the Public relations officer Kano Police Command Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa , the police said investigators recovered the victim’s severed throat from the suspect’s pocket.
Both the deceased victim and the suspect were confirmed dead and their bodies have been deposited at the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano, where they are awaiting autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has ordered a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crime and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

The Police Command has appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
Residents were also urged to provide any useful information that could aid the investigation, with assurances that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
