    NEMA Kano Government Distributes Relief Items to Flood Victims

    The Kano state government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has distributed relief items to 160 households affected by the flood disaster In the state.

    These relief items were generously donated by the Federal Government and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support the victims of the 2024 flood disaster.

    Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, represented by the chief of staff Government House Kano, Alhaji Wada Sagagi, commended the gesture and assured that the government would continue to assist victims of floods and natural disasters in the state.

    The Director-General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, explained that the gesture was part of the federal government’s interventions to alleviate the sufferings of the flood affected persons.

    LRepresented by Nura Abdullahi, the Coordinator, NEMA Kano Territorial Office, hinted that the gesture was not meant to compensate the victims over their losses, rather a gesture to help them recover from the devastation.

    “Kano state was selected for the relief intervention due to the high number of affected persons, and the urgency and severity of the need among flood victims”

    “The UAE Embassy donated 160 cartons of humanitarian relief items. The package consists of 20 assorted food items, including rice, salt, wheat flour, Quaker oats, and oil, among others,” she said.

    Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, enjoined the beneficiaries to utilize the items to fend for their family needs.

    One of the beneficiaries, Asabe Ibrahim, commended the gesture, adding that it would go a long way to cushion the effects of the disaster.
