The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has highlighted the Agency’s efforts to build sustainable regulatory systems that ensure Nigerians have access to safe, quality and efficacious medicines and nutritious foods.
Adeyeye stated this in a goodwill message delivered at the Mid-Year Review of Nigeria’s Health Sector Reforms and Policy Dialogue.

She noted that achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) requires reliable access to essential health commodities, stressing that strong regulatory systems, effective quality management and a competent workforce are critical to achieving sustainable health outcomes.

The NAFDAC Director-General highlighted progress made by the Agency in strengthening its regulatory systems through the implementation of standard operating procedures, quality management systems and the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT).
According to her, these measures are aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, improving Nigeria’s regulatory framework and ensuring effective protection of public health.

Adeyeye said sustained investment in regulatory capacity would help ensure that medicines and food products available to Nigerians meet required standards of safety, quality and efficacy.
She added that NAFDAC would continue to support health sector reforms through effective regulation and stronger institutional systems that contribute to improved public health outcomes.
