Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sports development, with plans to upgrade sporting facilities and sponsor coaching courses for university staff.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, emphasized the vital role of sports in fostering holistic development, health, and unity among students, while also highlighting its growing potential as a revenue-generating avenue.
Professor Musa made the disclosure, during a meeting with a delegation of university coaches led by the Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Mohammed.
He assured the delegation that his administration would prioritize the improvement of sports infrastructure and programs across the campus.
Highlighting recent achievements, the Vice-Chancellor praised BUK athletes for their outstanding performance at the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games in Jos, where the university secured several medals.
He also congratulated the Directorate of Sports and Volleyball Coach Usman Abdallah for preparing five players who represented BUK at the National Volleyball Federation Championship.
In addition to facility upgrades, Professor Musa pledged to sponsor coaches to attend seminars, workshops, and professional training courses to strengthen capacity and enhance performance.
Speaking on behalf of the coaches, Taekwondo Coach Ibrahim Yahuza called for further improvement of the university’s sporting facilities and sustained support for professional coaching development.
He praised BUK’s world-class taekwondo and judo mats, noting that such infrastructure is rare in Nigeria.
Earlier, Director of Sports Professor Rabiu Mohammed reiterated the Directorate’s commitment to supporting the University Management in advancing sports development at BUK.
