The Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) has successfully completed 12 critical water projects at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), including the supply and installation of solar-powered water pumps, rehabilitation of groundwater storage tanks, and revitalisation of water works serving student hostels.
Professor Haruna Musa, Vice-Chancellor of BUK, disclosed this while leading a delegation on an appreciation visit to HJRBDA, recognizing the Authority’s timely intervention in addressing the University’s long-standing water scarcity challenges.
Professor Musa expressed the University’s profound gratitude, highlighting that the projects, executed between December 2025 and January 2026, have significantly improved access to potable water for students, staff, and the wider university community. “These interventions have enhanced living and learning conditions across key university facilities,” he said.
The initiatives benefit multiple BUK locations, including the New Campus, Old Campus, School of Continuing Education, University Hotels, and the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) Campus.
Responding to the visit, HJRBDA Managing Director, Engineer Rabi’u Sulaiman Bichi, welcomed the University delegation and thanked BUK for acknowledging the Authority’s efforts.
He explained that HJRBDA’s mandate involves the development and management of water resources for domestic, industrial, and agricultural use across Kano, Bauchi, and Jigawa States.
Engineer Bichi emphasized that Bayero University falls within the Authority’s operational jurisdiction, noting that providing sustainable water infrastructure to the institution was both necessary and strategic due to BUK’s status as a leading centre of learning, research, and innovation in the region.
The BUK delegation was received by HJRBDA’s Executive Director of Administration and Finance,Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, alongside other members of the Authority’s senior management.
