The Republic of Niger has launched a nationwide military recruitment exercise aimed at strengthening the country’s security apparatus amid rising internal and external threats.
Officials disclosed that more than 16,000 young people, including both men and women from across the country, have registered to participate in the mass recruitment drive.
The exercise is part of broader efforts by the authorities to bolster the capacity of the armed forces and territorial control.
The recruitment comes at a time when Niger continues to face security challenges linked to insurgency, banditry, and instability along its borders.
Authorities say the initiative reflects the government’s resolve to enhance national defence, protect civilians, and restore stability in vulnerable regions.
Further details on the screening process, training timeline, and deployment plans are expected to be announced by the relevant military authorities in the coming days.
