The Kano State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC), and the Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) have commended the successful organization of a one-day training workshop aimed at enhancing journalists’ skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and content creation.
The commendation was made at the end of the workshop by the Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, who urged participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training in their professional practice.
Dangambo also praised the founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, for his humanitarian contributions across various sectors within and outside Nigeria, noting that the chapel was proud to be associated with him.
The workshop was organized in Kano for members of KOMC and the Kano State Chapter of NAWOJ as part of activities marking the 48th birthday of Professor Gwarzo. It was held at the American Corner of the Murtala Muhammad Library, Kano.
The conference, titled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence and Content Creation: Impact in the Year 2026,” was facilitated by Musa Abdullahi Sufi. It brought together journalists, content creators, and members of both professional organizations, and focused on guiding media practitioners on emerging technologies and innovations relevant to modern journalism.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano State Chapter, Bahijja Malam Kabara, alongside the KOMC Chairman, noted that the training was timely, given the growing influence of AI technology on journalism and media practice.
According to the leaders of the two unions, the workshop enhanced participants’ understanding of how artificial intelligence can be applied in a systematic and ethical manner, while also improving creativity, efficiency, and credibility in news production amid rapid technological changes.
They urged participants to effectively utilize the knowledge gained to improve their professional skills and to uphold the core principles of journalism as they navigate emerging challenges in the evolving media landscape.
The NUJ, KOMC, and NAWOJ further commended Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for choosing to celebrate his birthday by investing in the training and capacity building of journalists, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to the development of journalism in Kano State, northern Nigeria, and the country at large.
