The NAPRI Annex of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Staff School has held its maiden Cultural Day, bringing together pupils, teachers, parents and guests in a colourful celebration of Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity.
The event, held on the school premises as part of activities for the 2025/2026 academic session, featured traditional dances, cultural songs, drama, arts and crafts, indigenous cuisines and other performances showcasing the country’s diverse ethnic heritage.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion and Acting Assistant Director of Extension and Linkages at the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI), Dr. Yunusa Ishiaku, who represented the Acting Executive Director of NAPRI, Professor M. R. Hassan, described the celebration as an important initiative aimed at promoting unity and cultural awareness among young learners.
He said the event provided pupils with an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s cultural heritage through Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo languages, while fostering mutual understanding and national cohesion.
“The essence of this programme is to promote unity in Nigeria by exposing our children to the country’s rich cultural heritage from an early age,” he said.
Dr. Ishiaku conveyed the Acting Executive Director’s appreciation to the school management for organizing the event, noting that it would help instill pride in Nigeria’s cultural values among the pupils.
The Headmaster of ABU Staff Schools, Malam Umar Bala, commended the NAPRI Annex for successfully hosting its first Cultural Day, describing the event as a reflection of the school’s commitment to holistic education.
He noted that the annex had recorded remarkable growth and expressed optimism that, if the current pace is sustained, its enrolment would soon rival that of the main campus.
Malam Bala also appreciated the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for its continued support in improving the school’s learning environment and appealed to parents to sustain their cooperation as preparations begin for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The event concluded with the management and staff of the NAPRI Annex expressing gratitude to the leadership of NAPRI, parents and other stakeholders for their support in making the maiden Cultural Day a success.
