The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) and FP2030 have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to improve financing, transparency and accountability in family planning programmes across Nigeria.
The commitment was made during a strategic engagement between the AHBN Coordinator, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, and the Regional Director/Managing Director for North, West and Central Africa at FP2030, Dr. Alain E.M. Damiba.
Also present at the meeting was the Advocacy, Accountability and Partnership Manager of the FP2030 North, West and Central Africa Hub, Yusuf Nuhu.
During the meeting, Dr. Damiba commended AHBN for its sustained contributions to advancing family planning in Nigeria, particularly its advocacy for increased government funding for family planning commodities and its budget tracking initiatives aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the utilisation of released funds.
The discussions centred on strengthening coordination among the various financing streams supporting family planning in Nigeria, including government and development partner contributions, to improve alignment, monitoring and overall effectiveness.
Both organisations also examined persistent challenges affecting family planning services, especially commodity stockouts and fragmented financing. They agreed on the need to develop a coordinated overview of partners and funding supporting family planning commodity procurement to enhance transparency, accountability and effective resource coordination.
The meeting further resolved that findings from the Motion Tracker Approach (MTA) would be leveraged to support FP2030’s annual country self-report.
AHBN and FP2030 also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration on subnational advocacy to promote routine budgetary allocations and timely release of funds for family planning as well as maternal, newborn and child health programmes across Nigeria.
