The management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has warned content creators operating social media platforms bearing the University’s name against publishing unverified information capable of misleading the public.
In a statement, the University expressed concern over recent reports by some platforms announcing the promotion of certain senior academics to the rank of Professor, despite the fact that the promotion process has not yet been concluded.
According to the University, the recommendations of the Appointments and Promotions Committee are still awaiting submission to external assessors. It explained that promotion to the rank of Professor only becomes official after the external assessment process has been completed and the recommendation receives approval from the University Council.
BUK urged content creators and members of the public to verify all information relating to the institution through its official communication channels, including the University’s verified social media platforms, official website, and the University Bulletin.
The management emphasized that publishing unconfirmed information could mislead the public and undermine the integrity of the University’s academic processes.
It further warned that the institution would not hesitate to take appropriate action against any individual or platform found disseminating false or misleading information capable of damaging the University’s reputation or deceiving members of the public.
