The Kaduna State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Kaduna State.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening institutional integrity, transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s aviation training sector.
Representing the ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, the Assistant Commissioner and Head of the System Study and Review Department of the Kaduna State Office, Habib Muhammad Kwalam, commended the management of NCAT for supporting the establishment of the unit.
Kwalam charged the newly inaugurated ACTU members to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, impartiality and integrity.
He described corruption as a major obstacle to national development, warning that corrupt practices could undermine institutional effectiveness, damage public confidence and hinder organisational growth.
The ICPC official urged members of the unit to remain vigilant and proactively identify practices capable of encouraging corruption within the institution.
He also stressed the need for anti-corruption education to extend beyond staff to students, noting that building a culture of integrity requires the participation of the entire college community.
Responding on behalf of the Rector, the Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr John Ali, reaffirmed NCAT’s commitment to collaborating with the ICPC in the fight against corruption.
Dr Ali said the establishment of the ACTU would strengthen the college’s internal mechanisms for preventing corrupt practices and promoting accountability, transparency and good governance.
He assured the ICPC that the college management would provide the necessary support to enable the unit to effectively carry out its mandate.
The Head of Legal, ICPC Kaduna State Office, Dr Agada Akogwu, administered the oath of office to members of the newly inaugurated unit.
The oath formally committed the members to upholding confidentiality, integrity, impartiality and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities.
In his vote of thanks, the newly appointed Chairman of the ACTU, Kolawale Rafi’u, appreciated the ICPC for establishing the unit and expressed the members’ readiness to work with the Commission and NCAT management.
He pledged that the unit would contribute to promoting a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability within the institution.
The establishment of the ACTU marks another step towards strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms in Nigeria’s aviation sector and ensuring that NCAT continues to uphold high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
